Hi, like many folks here I am trying to locate my ancestral village in Kaiping. I hope to take my kids there someday. I always thought I had lots of time to do so, but recently I heard that the government is redeveloping some areas and destroying villages. When I was a little girl, my father made me memorize where I am from, Canton, Hoi Ping, Sar Kong, Sui Soon. Unfortunately, now all the names have been changed. Fortunately it is written on my father's gravestone. I have attached a picture of it. I hope someone here can help me find the new name for my village and where it is. Thanks, Sharon Chong Attachments:

Thanks for the quick response! My father's surname is Chong (Cheung). I checked in the village DB and found it, it is number 153. Is there a map where I can find where it is located? Also the new name would be great!
Thanks!

Great - I'm glad you have found it. Someone will be along soon with the Chinese - I don't read it. What country do you come from? I copied the chinese characters for the village and came up with this : 水唇村 near Luhe, Shanwei, Guangdong, China Do you have google maps? try searching using the Chinese characters. maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=%E6%B0%B4%E5%94%87%E6%9D%91+&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=30.048013,56.513672&ie=UTF8&hq=%E6%B0%B4%E5%94%87%E6%9D%91&hnear=&radius=15000&ll=23.343517,115.767403&spn=0.13586,0.351562&z=12

I am in the U.S., Oakland, California. Ran the chinese characters for both Sar Kong and Sui Shun through google maps and got varied results. The locations were not near each other as I would exepect. Hopefully someone else who is better at this can come up with something.
Thanks!

Hi Sharon,
Welcome to the Forum.
I am currently in South America visiting my wife's family in Colombia and have only very basic Internet connectivity.
When I return home on January 29th, I can look at my set of very detailed historical maps for your ancestral village.
My nephew in Taishan can also serve as your guide and translator when you visit - he has assisted many Forum members.
My direct email address is: " Tomclan@ Gmail.com "

Thanks for the responses! @ Henry: I hope you are enjoying your trip. Despite 'moving-up' my timeline, I will not be able to make the trip for a couple of years (unless I hear that my village is due for demolition). I'd appreciate any help you can give me when you get back. tyuti1668: Thanks for the link. I remember seeing copies of the 'Sar Kong Monthly' magazine when I was little. Unfortunately, it looks like they primarily communicate in Chinese and I have very limited literacy. I will continue to explore the site.

Hi Sharon,
Just came across your message, nine months after your last post.
Are you still looking for Sui Soon village. I found Sui village area in Google map. It is very close to the city of Haiping, less than 10 km north East of the downtown area.
I am from Taihan and my wife are from Haiping. We visited Taishan and Haiping few months ago. Most likely, we passed by Sui Soon area. It is a developed area already. It is possible your village is not there anymore.
Let me know if you are still looking for Sui Soon. I may able to help as I speak and read Chinese.

I have a similar request. My father made me memorise the village from where he came. He passed in 2016. It goes: Sar Kong, Oong San Lei, Hoiping.
Family name: Cheung
Does anyone know of this village? And how it's written in Chinese script please?
I'm trying to locate it. Thank you.
