Hi,
I'm back... My maternal ancestor Huang Zhaoxiang/Wong Cheung Wah/Siu Cheung Huang had invented the U-I Oil and helped establish the Huang Ancestral Hall in Foshan. Does anyone know where I would go to find more information about this line and their Jiapu? The only other item my grandmother told me was that her father, Dai Gong Wong was the first western doctor in Canton.

One can understand the mix up with 江. Here is an article on history of Guangdong Public Health Medical Specialized School and its affiliated Public Hospital, which laid the foundation for the later Zhongshan Medical School. Since the Huang family was a prominent family in the early part of the last century, one would expect the Ho family to be of equal stature. Baidu 何侶俠 does turn up a supporter Dr. Sun Yatsen's democratic revolution with that name.

Thank you for all your assistance. Do you think I would have any luck in locating any of the jiapu's? This has been a learning experience. I was able to locate records for my husband's side of the family (Norwegian) all the way back to the 1100s.

The obvious place to start looking for the Huang jiapu is the Huang Ancestral Hall in Foshan. The Ho jiapu requires more research on Ho Lui Hap's family history, but he was a public figure so that information should be available.

Please excuse my ignorance. Do you think I could approach the Huang/Wong's Association here in Vancouver Canada for assistance in contacting the Hall in Foshan? Also, where would I be able to obtain more information on my Great Grandfather who was an Officer during Sun Yat Sen? I have also tried to translate the following attachment but have had no luck. I found pictures of my GGPs and they had the following written on them from their tombs. If anyone can translate, I will be very grateful. Regards Attachments:

Sure, you may find someone in the Wong Association to help. In your case, you should contact your cousins who are still running the U-I Oil company. Was Wong Cheung Wah your great great grandfather? According to the site I provided above, giving Wong Cheung Wah company history, he had the formula, but it was his 4th son Huang Yinan and 5th son who was in the medical field, the two who developed the oil. To me, the 5th son who's unnamed was very likely to be your great grandfather Wong Dai Kong. Anyway Huang Yinan's grandson, Huang Ningliu/ Wong Ying Lao, took over the family business and moved to Hong Kong in 1951. And then Huang Qichang/ Wong Kai Cheung later took over. As of the last update to this Hong Kong Trade Development website, Huang Ningliu was still the contact person for the company, HK telephone 852-2462-4863. www.hktdc.com/sourcing/hk_company_directory.htm?companyid=1X03OL81&locale=zh_TWI can't open .wps files, so I can't help with translation. If this contains a photo, perhaps convert it to a jpg file. I think you should have someone who's Chinese literate to help you search via google.com or baidu.com to look for leads to Ho Lui Hap.

Great grandfather's birth year is Emperor Guangxu yi hai year which is 1875.
Great grandfather's year of death is period of Republic guei mo which is 1943.
Great grandmother's year of birth is bing shen which is 1896.
Great grandmother's year of death is shen chen 申辰, which is a mistake. There is no year of shen chen. It could have been mistaken for jia chen 甲辰 which could be either 1904 or 1964. Since she was born in 1896, 1964 is the reasonable choice.

This might have been posted already, but it's worth repeating.
In Chinese calendar years are named according to heaven and earth cycles. The heaven cycle has 10 branches 甲、乙、丙、丁、戊 、己、庚、辛、壬、癸. The earth cycle has 12 branches 子、丑、寅、卯、辰、 巳、午、未、申、酉、 戌、亥
To simplify the explanation for those not literate in Chinese , imagine the heaven cycle is labeled A, B, C, D, E, F, G H, I, J and the earth cycle is labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Then the first year of the cycle is A1, second year B2, then C3, D4, E5, F6 ... J10 followed by A11, B12, C1, and so on and so forth until the 60th year J12. A new cycle repeats.
