Henry, et al
I think this is a LEE village, but without Village DB, I cannot be sure. In any case, can anyone tell me where is this village? Is it still under the jurisdiction of 台山
台山 密冲鄉 刀背村

laohuaqiao,
Many thanks for quick and precise reply. Lots of GINs are still living in 3-9; the LEEs and GINs have always been good friends. No wonder that this individual I am tryng to track was in 3-8, and being friends with the GINs in 3-9 (I presume), together went to New Gold Mountain. And to think they live close to our Ancestral Hall as well.
Your knowledge of the village lcations and finding the locations especially when there are aka is remarkable. I will go to ditu and have a look soon.
The rezoning of villages from one county to another can be quite tricky (ie, village previously in Taishan actually sits in Kaiping). Growing up, we have always called ourselves as from Taishan, rather than Kaiping, even though our Ancestral village is actually in the Kaiping city area.
Once again. many thanks. Ah Gin

Ah Gin, Woodson has been working diligently on replacing the search function of the Chinese Cultural Center of San Francisco's Village Data Base ( CCCSF Vdbclick) with a simplified search 'functionoid' on the Chinese Roots Wiki ( CRW Vdbclick). As you can see, it is half way done. This was set up to replace the disabled search feature on the CCCSF Vdb site. It has been enhanced by Henry with the translation of the military coordinates (MGRS) to geographic coordinates. This makes it unique from the CCCSF Vdb. The coordinates designate an area of ~5 mile square. In order to get further details like additional surnames, markets and subheungs as well as their other names (AKA's), you will need to use the results of your CRW Vdb 'search' and then navigate back to the browse page of the CCCSF Vdb to find that information. As long as you know the surname, this will help you find the village. Then, again, isn't Chinese genealogy surname first? Please provide feedback. Anyone with database skills, please inquire within. Doug

Would be good to explain what is meant Village#30, 3-8, 3-9, 4-9. Ah Gin and I were not speaking in some secret code. Village #30 referred to the village list in the link I provide, the village info Ah Gin was looking for. 3-8 and 4-9 are shorthands for the towns in Taishan whose names are Sanba (Three Eight ) and Sijiu (Four Nine), respectively. These towns were originally market places, I think their names came from their designated dates of the month as market day, ie 3rd and 8th, 4th and 9th. There is also a town called 5-10 Wushi.

lachinatown,
Sorry, don't mean to confuse or appear to be speaking in codes. laohuaqiao explains the terms 3-8, 4-9 etc. well.

Doug is the one who did the heavy lifting, so to speak. I just went along for the ride. To ensure the integrity of and to enhance the database every member and visitor to this board should check for their own village and those they are familiar with. Since this is an open wiki pages can be add and edit by all. One of our members, lachinatown. had added other surnames and village to the Lai database chinese.rootswiki.legacy1.net/doku.php?id=references:villages:village_database:lai

Supporting this project: edited douglaslam & Doug's ancestry village coordinate accroding to Google Earth (ditu.google.com offseted on purpose ) . Added a Lee (æŽ) village just opposite from Doug's. Where's other supporter(s) ?
