Hi (Kin, is that you?), I am not 100% sure if the Oakland Lim family association represents Dai Ling heung only, but I would think it does if it's specifically called æž—æ°å¤§å¶ºåŒé„‰æœƒ. My family was affiliated with them, but SF was our local association (I grew up in SF, live in Oakland now). Sometimes we went to dinners put on by the Oakland one too I believe, and there are a lot of East Bay/Oakland Lims still around. My grandpa was from Dai Ling ("Ai Lyeng" in local dialect). Dai Ling is in Hoisaan/Taishan, in modern day Suiboo/Shuibu, north of Taicheng, the main city in Taishan. Tons of Lims come from Ai Lyeng. My grandpa was from æ´žåºæ‘ Ung Han Toon specifically. This is completely different from Daling in Zhongshan. All the people at the Lim associations in Sf and Oakland that I knew of were Hoisanwaah-speaking people. The Owyangs are indeed from a specific part of Zhongshan, and I know three of them personally. Are you trying to find Lim/Lam/Lum resources from Zhongshan in the Bay Area? I know there is a Zhongshan association in Oakland Chinatown on 7th st, right next door to the Hoisaan association actually. That Zhongshan one is called Zhong Shan Doo Tao Association ä¸å±±æ¸¡é . I searched the Singtao yellow pages for other Lim associations around, and it is only the two SF and Oakland ones. There are quite a few different Zhongshan ones in the singtao yellow pages, divided by areas of Zhongshan, but one would have to research further to know which areas are home to which surnames: WARRENS ANTIQUES ä¸å±±å ‚ 375- 9th St. SF 415-703-0303 DUCK SEN BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±å¾·å–„å ‚ 1234 Powell St SF 415-982-5683 GWAY SEN BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±æ¸å–„å ‚ 752 Sacramento St SF 415-986-1299 HAY SEN BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±å–œå–„å ‚ 1123 Stockton St SF 415-397-6754 JACK SEN BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±ç©å–„å ‚ 619 Kearny St SF 415-981-0505 KAN FUK ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±å»ºç¦å®—è¦ªæœƒå ‚ 1129 Stockton St 2/f SF 415-986-4057 TUN SHEN ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±çŸ³å²å–„å ‚ 19 Wentworth Place SF 415-834-1009 -- actually I should really go visit this on because I am stumped on my husband's family's Lee/Sekkei origins. Maybe the Sekkei association can help me. Will also post a separate query to the forum about this. TUNG SEN BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION ä¸å±±åŒå–„å ‚ 1129 Stockton St SF 415-397-2834

Hi Christine, Yes, I'm Kin. I think you are right, the 大嶺 of this particular association refers to the "Heung" in Toishan that your grandpa is from and not the village in Chung Shan. Did you know there is another 大嶺鄉 in Toishan that is populated by the Yee clan? I'm not actually looking for Lim/Lam resources from Chung Shan, I was simply trying to locate all the Lum Sai Ho Tongs and I came across the æž—æ°å¤§å¶ºåŒé„‰æœƒ (I think their English name is "Tai Land Lim Family Association") in Oakland. Thanks for your help

Hi Kin, Oh ok -- are you descended from Lims/Lums too? I'm guessing there may also be a Lim association in Houston, TX, that's also where my grandpa's family has old ties. Where else did you come across them? I didn't know about the Yee's of another Ai Lyeng, but it isn't surprising that there's another Ai Lyeng in Hoisaan, there is also another village with the same name as my grandmother's that I thought was hers, since it was just down the road from my grandpa's, but it turned out that hers was hours away, that was really tricky to find! Thank goodness we did find it though, I would have just been so upset at myself if I didn't get to visit her village.

If you contact the San Francisco Lim Family Benevolent Association 林西河總堂, 415-521-1306, they should be able to provide you with the list of all their branch associations.

My friend, amazing researcher Christine's right - the Dai Liang (Daling in Pinyin) on my website is in Zhongshan. Many Owyangs I meet all can trace our roots to this village. I have a zupu which shows I'm in the 24th generation of Owyangs from that village. Other Owyangs are from nearby Sai Ah village.
The sites you link to are all from our journey to Dai Liang with about 20 Owyangs in 2006. When we went there, we found that 20 generations ago, an Owyang had four sons. One of them moved to Sai Ah and those from there can all trace their roots to him.
I hear that a lot of Lams/Lims from Zhongshan married Owyangs from nearby villages.

Correction - I meant to say "nearby Mah Jee village," not Sai Ah. We learned on a visit to Dai Liang that the fourth generation of Owyangs in Dai Liang had four sons. One of them went to Mah Jee and the line of Owyangs goes through him. So since the zupu says that I'm in the 24th generation of Owyangs from Dai Liang, 20 generations ago I had common ancestors with Mah Jee Owyangs. My friends who are Mah Jee Owyangs are approximately my 19th cousins!
I have been doing research on my maternal grandmother, who is a Gee/Chew from Sai Ah, so that's why I mis-wrote. Thanks, Kin, for noticing this error, and sorry for any confusion.

Hi Grant, I remember one of our 2010 rooters has Sai Ah roots. I didn't get to visit that village in particular but I might be able to share some pictures if you want, I don't know if you have been there before. Here's the Roots page for Sai Ah: rootsdb.org/zhang-jia-bian-jeungga-bin-xiya-cun-sainga-chyun-Christine P.S. thanks for the props!
