Here is the classic autobiography "Fifth Chinese Daughter" by Jade Snow Wong. New York:Harper &Brothers, copyright 1945, 1948, 1950.
This is an excellent book about life as a Chinese American daughter of immigrant parents pre WWII. Jade Snow Wong struggled with her bicultural life being an obedient daughter to later becoming a ceramist. She was a role model for many of 1st generation born in the US.

Yes, I read the book three or four years ago. It is an interesting insight into the life of a typical Chinese family in urban America. The emphasis of acquiring a Chinese education for the native-born generation was particularly strong back in those years before or during WWll. I guess little has changed because deep down most parents do want their children be Chinese-literate.
It is about time I read the book again.
