Recommend this book since it covers the length and breadth of Chinese contributions to early America but is also depressing for the severe trials and tribulations experienced by the Chinese. But it is a tribute to their ability to overcome against all odds.

I read all three books; Chinese in America, Thread of the Silkworm and Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang, from the library. 'Chinese in America' opened my eyes to what the early Chinese settlers faced in a hostile country. It is a great loss of a champion to largely unheralded, but nonetheless important aspects of history, when she chose to end her own life so tragically.
