My grandfather was sent to the Philippines in the 1920s. The name he used in his passport was GAO TO TWA. In the Philippines, he was known as GO BON PING and used the Filipino name JOSE GO, SR. He spoke Amoy. My mother remembers some of his friends like Ban Suan of Union Dry Goods in Angeles City and King Hwa of Guimba Rice Mill.
He & my grandma had 7 children: Ofelia (Go Ming Chu, my mother ) Benjamin (Go Han Min) Narciso (Go Han Sing) Rosita (Go Wi Chu) Jose Jr (Go Han Ping) Ernesto (Go Han Lian) Zenaida (Go Yan Chu)
He died in Bamban, Tarlac on June 6,1975. I would greatly appreciate any information regarding our roots or any relatives in China. May the Lord help me. Thank you.

Hi Joyce, I missed your post. Have you got any other information - Chinese characters, what dialect spoken? Did he belong to any association, are there any offical documentations like passport, letters written? Unless we have more clues, it will be hard for us to help you.

Hi Joyce - This is the thread that you posted. I understand that your own information has been lost - But they may be available from your country's archives?
Do you know what dialect spoken? Did he belong to any association, are there any offical documentations like passport, letters written?
There maybe some other people with Phillipine's reseach knowledge that can help you.
Please re-start the thread under Chinese Genealogy. More people will notice it there.

Hello all,
I am a teochew, 3rd gen on father side (Khou or Khoo), 2nd generation of mother side (Li or Lee or Ly).
I have been recommended here by another teochew. I am also trying to look for my father's side root, as well as my mother side root back to Guangdong. Grandfather of mother side was doing well in his biz, after the war, all real estate and everything gone. Now we built it back.
After extensive one-to-one interview with living relatives, still can not find.
You know war happened in Cambodia, and all legal document lost. Before war broke in 1975 in Cambodia, mum told me that they still exchanged letter and send gift to China ( was poor at that time). But after the war in 1979, nothing.
I want to see the homeland so much.
I hope to continue the conversation.
Best regards, Kimsan

My fathher's name is Tan Huan Tong or Tan Wan Tong, born in Amoy, China in 1916 or 1917. He left China by boat with his father or brother and landed in the Philippines. He had letters from his sisters in Amoy so I know he still have relatives there. I would very much appreciate to link with his relatives.

What years? are their any envelopes with name and return address in Chinese? can you post here so others can help? You will need to bear in mind that women marry out of the family, and it may now be a mission to locate your father's family village.

Do you have Chinese characters, years that he left China, any addresses, headstones etc will be useful.

Maybe I've missed previous posts that have provided clarification; but lacking that, a good place to start is to provide information on: - your father's name(s) in all languages that were used - where your father lived after leaving China - any information that you have on where he lived in China - when he left China - any known relatives outside of China - many members and moderators here are extremely helpful in translating documents that provide information so high quality photos of those (including gravestones) should be shared Any of these steps would be helpful in getting you started.
