(To Lachinatown from Roy)
Outstanding !!! Thank You Lachinatown, you are the best. It is such a relief to know the village that my Popo came from.
Wow what a revelation, no one in the family took note that it was written on the gravestone.
Thank you again.

Lachinatown, It was easy to find Long Kouli in Volume 5, there are alot of pages for both Long Kouli and Long Kou Lay.............but I did not find Xuan long lay/cun.
I am hoping that it is not in Volume 3 (descendants of Chun he and Chun xiu) because the Village is not listed on top of the pages like it is in Volume 5.....
I just looked through Volume 6 (also has Village name on top of page), and it was not in there either.........sooooo, either it is in a Volume that I don't have yet (Volumes 2 and 4), or in the dreaded Volume 3....

"They are under different village administrations."
Correction: The two villages are in the same "jurisdiction village". Google pointed to the south side of the river for one village. Now I know both villages are on the north side.
Fay Chee, the villages are located in your SooHoo village book, on pages 36 and 37.

Oooooh! I didn't even look in the Village book, I went straight for the Seto Zupu Books......Since both Villages are so close together and in same administrative districts, I must have just missed Xuanlong .....I will look again. Wow, Xuanlong is very old, built in 1745. Longkouli is on page 43 and built in 1687.... Thanks so much Lachinatown!

Good news and not so good news........
The Good: I found Xuan Long (17 pages) and Longkouli (50 pages) in Volume 5!
The Not so: We do not have the Chinese characters for the 4 brothers (Mon Chong Seto, Chung Sing Seto, York Seto and Doi King Mun Seto).
All moved to Kauai HI and did not use their Chinese names.....
I asked Roy for their Generation number and I can at least look for 4 brothers in the same generation.........

Lachinatown, Can you make out the Chinese characters of Mon Kee Seto's given name? Roy does not know his Generation number but I am guessing with that birth date (1855), he is probably Generation 23 or 24, like my granddad...... Thank you, Fay Chee

If anyone else is interested in Xuan Long Li, I scanned the 17 pages of Family trees and saved as Word Doc and PDF formats...
Let me know.

So I printed out the tombstone picture, darkened the characters with a pencil, then used the Google Translator App - camera function.......it read the characters as "Situ wen ji"....of course the lower part of the tombstone is cut off, so I don't think it is the complete name.......... 司徒文基 Situ wen ji

Lachinatown,
Thank you for confirming that the name on the tombstone is translated correctly.....
Now I can look through the 17 pages for those characters between Gen 23-25.

Hi Lachinatown, Update after looking through 17 pages for Wen ji Seto......... Roy said that there were 4 sons that left China and moved to Hawaii. In Volume 5 - Xuan long, Shuxi Township, Chikan Town had Generation 24 for 'Wen'. I found 3 pages with the names 'Wen' at G24. Page 416 had a family with 4 sons named Wen yi, Wen zhong, Wen he, and Wen Guang. I am hoping that Wen yi is the same as Wen ji......can anyone confirm for me??? The other 2 pages (pg 421 and 423) had Wen qi in both, but 7 sons, 3 sons and 11 sons.....

基 and 亦 are not the same, different words and meanings. So is 棋.

Thanks Lachinatown, I was hoping that the 4 sons on page 416 was the correct family.... So Wen ji is not the same as Wen yi... What about Wen qi on pages 421 and 423? Not same either? Maybe this is not the correct Village and there is another Xuan Long Li in another book? I don't know what the first two words mean "Guo chong"

I understand the dichotomy and at least the Wen ji is something we can hold as true.
Were you able to look at the gravestone for Ah Doi Seto that I sent to you, perhaps the Chinese characters on the stone may be of some help in identifying the right name or village.

Guo is fruit. Chong is flat land? Maybe Douglas or tyuti1668 can tell us.
