Tony, There are at least 2 villages in Xinhui with the name 大坑村 Dakeng Cun.
江门市 新会区 三江镇 洋美村委会大坑村
江门市 新会区 沙堆镇 独联村委会大坑村
Neither is far from Liang Qichao Memorial or home village, 5-10 km away, with the first one being the closer of the 2. I don't know which or if either is a Wu/ Hu 胡 village.

Tony, I don't know of a 塘下 in Xinhui 新会. I do know of a Tangxia Zhen 棠下 镇 in today's Pengjiang District 蓬江区 in Jiangmen.
I should explain that today's Pengjiang 蓬江 District, Xinhui 新会 District, Jianghai 江海 District and Jiangmen 江门 city center made up the former Xinhui county. In the past, Tangxia 棠下镇 was part of Xinhui county. Today Tangxia is no longer part of Xinhui District but Pengjiang District.
Anyway, there is at least one Wu/Hu 胡 village in Tangxia, namely Jinzhugang 金竹岗。 There is also Tianxiang Dakeng village 天乡 大坑村 in Tangxia, but I don't know if it's a Wu/Hu 胡 surname village.

Dear Moderator,
Thank you for replying.
I am not sure whether the So village is in Tin Ho Hueng Village of Xinhui district.
According to my family 家譜, the old name of the village (dating back to 1934) in Xinhui District was 冈 背 村忠 冈 里
Please help me to locate my ancestral village and ancestral temple.
Thank you.
Regards,
Soh

Peter Soh, Using baidu.com to search for 新会忠冈村 did return a result with 双水镇梅冈村委会忠冈村, but the resulting link may no longer be valid. There is however a 双水镇梅冈村委会中冈村, so there may have been a name change. In the village-surname database, there is a 梅冈村 in 小冈乡 under the So/Su 苏 surname Here is an article again linking 新会区双水镇梅冈村 to the So/Su 苏 surname, also mentioning the village was found in 1932, baike.baidu.com/link?url=XJJWN9b5WViiC45XyLcUPbk_4KDlhkv71yFZZow-JVAl7cW6gfv3WWJIDILSD6sraQnzAgwpHaOuhh1Xxs41JqI think 梅冈村 is the place to start your search. To inquire by phone try 双水镇电话: 0750-6411459 first to obtain the phone number for 梅冈村 administration office and go on from there. Anyway, the village has the coordinate "22.4698, 112.9826" if you are using ditu.google.com I can't find any reference to 冈背村 in 新会, the closest name to it is coincidentally (or may be not) a 北冈村 in 梅冈村.

Dear Moderator,
Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to try tracing the So village in Xinhui district.
I've managed to locate the village 梅冈村 indicated by your coordinates using ditu.google.com
Will follow up with the phone call to obtain phone no. for admin office.
Like you, I suspect that there may have been a village name change since 1934. I hope that my ancestral village and ancestral temple have not been demolished despite urbanization or industrialization. In the meantime, I've tried to locate 冈背村 on any available online older (or ancient) map of Xinhui, but have yet to be successful. If you do come across one such map, hard copy or online, kindly let me know.
Want to be sure before visiting Xinhui from overseas; I owe it to my family and future generations, especially when my 家譜 lists 苏 东 坡 as one of my ancestors.
Thanks once again.
Peter

Dear Moderator,
I have just visited my ancestral village 梅冈村 in Xinhui District 新会区 and have met up with some Cantonese-speaking distant relatives of surname Su 苏.
With the aid of my 家普 and a helpful villager, have also located the grave of the first ancestor who settled in that village, 3 of the 苏 former ancestral temples. The memorial tablets are long gone but the buildings remain.
Thank you for your kind assistance.
Regards,
Peter

Soh/Peter, Wow, that was quick. You must have planned on this trip long before you came to this forum a few weeks ago. I'm glad you were able to find your village and trace your ancestors in the So zupu.

Dear moderator, you seems to be really good in the geography and history of Jiangmen. Appreciate if you can help me with the address of my ancestral village in XinHui (currently Jiangmen shi). It's also good if you could provide me with a GPS coordinate of the village location.
My family name is: 朱 (Choo - is how it is spelt in Malaysia) Village name: 草原里 (if i remember correctly) County / Province: Xinhui / Jiangmen - I was told that they no longer call the district Xinhui but Jiangmen.
Thanks a lot!
Caleb

Caleb, The address I found with village name 草原里 is 广东省·江门市·蓬江区·环市镇 群星乡管理区 丹灶草原里 529030
Checking with our surname-village database, 丹灶乡 in the former Xinhui county does have a Zhu 朱 clan. So I think this is what you are looking for.
Using the Chinese version of Google Maps, ditu.google.com the coordinates for 丹灶 in 江门市·蓬江区 群星乡管理区 are "22.6295, 113.0576" 草原里 is not labeled on map, it may be the same village or nearby.
