Our new book has been published, and ready for distribution.
Har Gee Chans in New Zealand
The history of the Chans from Har Gee in New Zealand began with the arrival of the first men from the village in the 1890s. The men represented several families, a large proportion of the village community, all determined to make money to improve their living standards back in China. Their intention was always to live in China but a series of unfortunate historical incidents in the 1930s-1940s meant that that decision was taken out of their hands.
Since then there have been several generations of Chans who now call New Zealand home and can proudly trace their ancestry back to a little village called Har Gee in Guangdong, China.
Published by the Har Gee Chans Reunion Committee 2014, this book celebrates the 75th year of arrival of our Har Gee womenfolk and children in 1939.

I have just come back from Jungseng and Dongguan - a 12 day lychee eating tour with 14 others on the tour. We spent a good half day in Har Gee, 6 of us having their roots there. Our Har Gee Book was donated to both the Overseas Chinese & Foreign Affairs and to the local Village community. Both groups warmly received the books, and the Overseas Chinese & F A people were going to have it translated. Auckland NZ Chinese Association are planning a 75th anniversary celebration of the NZ Government accepting the Chinese women and children refugees to NZ. We are planning for 600 people for a luncheon. If anyone is planning a group tour, the the Overseas Chinese office are very helpful, and eagerly await us to tour their area, and will provide assistance with visas, transport and take you to wherever you want to go. gocn.southcn.com/english/brief/200406100026.htm

Most of that site was last updated in 2004. I have tried 2 of the email addresses I found in that site, one is no longer operational gdsfqb@gdnet.com.cn, and one hasn't replied in over a month gdsfqb@gocn.southcn.com. I have just tried a 3rd gdqw@gdnet.com.cn, which also bounces back as "not found". Do you have one that you know is actually monitored? I am looking for a contact in the Guanlan area in Shenzhen. Also, their submit request form at gocn.southcn.com/english/consult/ is broken, and shows you an error message after you click on "Send".
