For any of our Sydney based readers - keep Saturday 21st November, 2015 clear in your diary! chineseaustralianhistory.org/current-events-news/------snip ------ The CAHS committee has planned an exciting end of year excursion for our members and friends. Dr Peter Hobbins of the University of Sydney and an expert on the archaeology and history of quarantine will guide us through the history of the Quarantine Station in which early Chinese migrants played a significant role. There will also be a visit to the Third Cemetery developed in 1881 to receive those afflicted with smallpox. Names like Ah Hon and Kee Moon may stir feelings or memories for some of us. ----end snip ------- Follow the link for more details.

Yes Kerry, I know the Q Station or Quarantine Station well though I have yet to get inside to see it. It is on Sydney's very scenic spot North Head, overlooking the harbour. It is also part of the main attraction, the famous Manly Beach. Tourists arrive by the thousands by ferry from the city centre taking in the very enjoyable ferry ride. As I am still in China, a quick search yielded these two useful sites. Google is difficult to get on. www.mafengwo.cn/i/1325840.htmlwww.quarantinestation.com.au/The 135 bus is an infrequent service. Many younger people chose to hire a bicycle but it is an uphill ride. Have fun everyone.
