Hello there! I was wondering if any of you guys can help me find my family tree...My surname is Thai (蔡) because my father was born in Vietnam because my grandfather escaped from Fujian because of war. He is from Tong'an village (now district) near Xiamen, China. As far as I know, my middle name is 國 and my dad told me that it relates to a generation surname...I don't know if my father is right because my grandfather told him that and he's unsure. My father, uncles, and aunt all have the same middle name of 培 and my grandfather has the middle name of 熙...I hope you respond! Thank You!

Hi Andrew, Unless someone from this Forum also originated from the same ancestral village in Tong’an as your ancestors and already have a copy of the ancestral records (jiapu or zupu), I doubt anyone in this Forum could provide you with your family tree. If you do not know the name of your ancestral village in Tong’an, the task would be more involved in locating villages having people with your surnames. I suppose you know the names (in the Chinese characters) for your grandfather and maybe your father or uncle as well. Knowing the name of your ancestral village, you could either make a trip there yourself to locate your clan ancestral hall to see if a copy of your clan ancestral record is still available, and/or updated in recent years, or had been recompiled (if destroyed). If you wish to go there yourself, I could refer you to someone in Xiamen who could accompany and guide you there if you know where your specific ancestral village. Alternatively you could use the services of My China Roots as was done by others such as twnxn. See his postings in siyigenealogy.proboards.com/thread/752/common-ancestor-surname-chen?page=22. My China Roots may be able explore a wider area to match your series of generation names. I have some slides that I had used regarding your surname Cai (蔡) among those used for a talk on Chinese genealogy I gave previously to a university. The slides were included to the topic proper because the President of the university who attended the talk is of that surname. If you are interested on the relevant slides, send me a personal message giving me your email.

Hello you say your father was born from Vietnam. In our ancestral records in 东石镇西湖蔡氏 we have 1 ancestor married a vietnamese girl with Nguyen surname when to our hometown and went back to Vietname again and died there then have 3-4 sons I think. We need to check on the record I have proof. Can I have your real name ?

My surname is 蔡 and I know we were from 同安 but migrated to 鼓浪屿
My great-grandfather's name is 蔡虔诚 and moved from 鼓浪屿 to Malaysia.
Was wondering if anyone could be of help.
