Hi Helen
Thanks for putting me into further fields to search for my village. It is getting interesting as have another address of a distant cousin 广东省台山市海宴镇永和管区南头村92号
这是我乡下地址
House number is 92.
This apparently is quite near my mother's place so we will see as this cousin will be in his village above to guide us to my mother's village. No-one is still alive except for the daughter of my mother's adopted brother. Her two sons are working out of the small village.
I will try to go to the Chinese Consulate in Christchurch after the holidays to see if they can find anything like the ": Haiyan Town Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Unit in Charge: Haiyan Town People 's Government"
I know there was quite a large office looking after the returned Chinese in the ChaoChiu area, they looked after our inlaws group when they went there.

Hi Joe, Sorry to intrude into these conversations - but I noticed your recent post in another thread and then found this thread about Haiyan. While my family is technically not from Haiyan, our hometown of Nafu was, for a long time during Imperial China, administrated under Haiyan. In my patrilineal manuscript zupu from 1915, place names still used "Haiyan" as an overarching region. I found this book, Haiyan xiang tu shi (1960, by Li Yiji, books.google.com/books/about/Haiyan_xiang_tu_shi.html?id=EFZOAAAAMAAJ), on Google Books a while back and hoped to one day find a copy that I could use to learn more about the geography and history of my roots. While in Hong Kong last year, I took many trips to the Central Library which had a rare books collection with one original copy of this text. I was blown away by the information inside of it. I know that there is also a copy in the Chicago Public Library and one in an Australian collection. Later on, while skimming through microfilms on FamilySearch.org, I found that it was scanned and digitized but not catalogued. I'll try to get you the link soon. Central America is a popular migration destination for people in this region, and so the book includes information about families that have migrated there; my cousin married into a family that has a history in Mexico and she now runs some of their restaurant businesses there. There are also business logs of Hong Kong merchants who hail from Haiyan and its surrounding regions, short clan histories for prominent surname groups, and a collection of local legends. In the meantime, please see this map that was included in the original print, drawn by the author. As you can see, Haiyan once covered the majority of Western Taishan including the two Chuan Islands: Best, Jason

Hi Joe,
My Taishan nephew Tan Shi Cheng moved to Hong Kong last July 2017 and has gotten a very busy job working as a repairman for air conditioners.
