Hello, I’m in the beginning stages of looking into my ancestral clan. I know our surname-Yick/Yik is not common. My ancestors were from Hoksan (crane mt.) from Guangdong province. My grandfather’s name is 易茂才. Any information would be very helpful.
Thank you!

Work on getting Chinese characters; any given names of ancestors born in China. You will need the characters of your ancestral village. Tombstones and immigration documents, passenger manifests are important. If you frequent the USA, consider one of Henry 's biannual genealogy conferences. Everyone experience a course from Henry . Never neglect the first step: carefully documenting your elder's oral history.

Hello Yick86,
According to this article ( www.1yi.org/researchgd.html), the Yik clan of Guangdong Province is separated into four branches, where the Hoksan branch stems from the youngest of four brothers who lived during the 1200's. This branch settled in and still lives in Yuk Kiu Village (meaning Jade Bridge) just west of Hoksan City ( click here for Google Maps location).
Best, Jason
