My grandfather was a military servicemen with the KMT government, and came to Taiwan in 1949. Like so many of his generation, my grandparents refused to talk about their former lives in China, for the trauma of war was too much for them to bear. Now that they are gone, it leaves us little to go on as far as genealogy goes. Essentially all we know is that both of my grandparents are from Xinhui County in Guangdong Province.
Recently, my father was doing some house cleaning, and came up with a 1949-1950-ish document from Taiwan belonging to my grandfather. It contains this line that my father is unfamiliar with:
原本寄籍所屬省縣市鄉鎮區村里鄰番號:穗漢 04446 號
To the best of my ability, it says:
Original Address (Province, County, City,..., Number): Sui Han Number 04446
Does 穗漢 ring a bell for anyone? 穗 could be a name for Guangzhou, but I'm not sure what the combination of 穗漢 signifies.
And would anyone happen to know what 04446 might refer to? Perhaps points to a certain building, block, or neighborhood of a particular city/town/village?
I doubt this particular address, even deciphered, would lead to much in my genealogy quest, but it would certain quell my curiocity!
Thanks in advance!
