Hello, I have come across this forum and I'm hoping someone can help. My grandfather 呂煊森 was born in 新會 but I don't know much of anything about him or my family old history. He moved to Hong Kong sometime around the WW2. I don't know if he and my grandmother moved to Hong before, during, or after the war. As an American, I want to know more about my family past. According to my dad, my grandfather had a brother named 呂煊章 or 呂煊𤍤. I don't know much beyond that and neither does he.
Thank you, Yuka

Yuka, I suggest you check for the immigration records for your grandfather if you know his Western name: Chinese Immigrants entering/leaving San Francisco or Honolulu 1881 - 1955 - approximately 136K - There are two Excel files that allow for electronic searches - if you make a match on the name - field 1 is the Case File Number, field 2 is the bin location where the case file is stored at the NARA facility in San Bruno - these are in my DropBox: www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/cxhq1dsfzt2854tj5wsj5/h?dl=0&rlkey=sejp7ofxzesvs7orive2tpe7zThese case files can be a treasure trove of information & photos. Henry,
My grandparents never left Hong Kong. I don't think checking the immigration records will help. I am actually the first gen American. LOL

Hi Yuka:
Try to find something that will tell you how your family members Romanized their names. That will help you in searching English language records.
A very important piece of information would be the exact name of your ancestral village in Sunwui (Xinhui 新會), which is now a district of the city of Kong Moon (Jiangmen 江門). You might find that on headstones in cemeteries, if you can find your family members' graves.
Most members of the Cantonese Lui 呂 clan come from Sunwui County, and from what was formerly called Tai Chak Township (Daze 大澤鄉). Of the Lui villages there, the largest was the village named after the Lui clan, Lui Village (Lucun 呂村). Today the man who is supposedly the richest in Hong Kong, Macao casino operator Lui Che-woo (Lu Zhihe 呂志和), was born there. You may be related to him!
