I went on a trip to China and visited a bunch of my ancestral villages. The most surprising and unexpected news came from Yung Mak 雍陌. My great-grandfather, Dai Kok Chang 鄭帝國, born in Hawaii, had two elder half-brothers, 鄭石榕 and 鄭佛漸, the eldest of which joined Sun Yat-sen’s revolution. It seems that my great-grandfather and his father, Chang Hood (or Wood) 鄭活 changed their names as didn’t want to be found by the Qing government. Their original names were 鄭帝鏡 and 鄭瑞.
