I'm trying to find more information about my ancestral families. This is the pronouncation they've given me in their Hoi Heng dialect. Lin Fung Lai is in Maugong and Lin Ahn Lai is in Hingong. Surnames are Chao and Wong. I'm not sure if the spelling I have is correct with the many possible spellings and interpretations. Any information on any of this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Lwong, Welcome to the Forum. If you could post the Chinese characters for the names of the villages and the nearest market towns and districts - then, it might be possible to help you. Romanizations of Chinese names, because there are several and no standardization, causes more confusion that clarity. You can post an image by referring to: siyigenealogy.proboards28.com/index.cgi?board=comment&action=display&thread=421Henry

Thank you Henry for your reply. I'm sorry for the delayed response as I gave birth and have been busy.
This is the new information that I have...Dad remembers going to Chek Ham and Mom remembers going to Hin Gong Hwe. All these locations are in Kaiping (Hoiping, Hoyheng). Could you also recommend a detailed map of the Kaiping area? Again, thank you kindly.
Linda

Hi Linda,
Is it possible to have your parents write the Chinese names of both their ancestral villages and the nearest larger market towns - this would make it so much easier to locate the villages. Also, please ask them to write the Chinese character for the Chao surname - there are 3 different Chinese characters that are romanized as "Chao".
Regards,
Henry

Linda,
In my opinion, the best detailed online map is Google Maps @ [maps.google.com]. Zoom in and you'll eventually get to the Kaiping City area. Zoom in some more and you'll see the names of the villages too. The map is in written Chinese (Simplified characters) and Mandarin Pinyin (for those of us who can't read Chinese).
The [www.kaiping.gov.cn] website has a very detailed map, but it's entirely in written Chinese (Simplified characters).
If you're looking for a decent county map, try this link [http://www.kwanfamily.info/images/maps/kaiping.jpg]. I'm guessing the map is circa 1990 since the Chinese characters are in traditional characters.
