I am trying to help a friend out. Her father's Philippine name is Cerrer. His heritage is Chinese. His family surname is Yu. She hasn't much information and I am not sure where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Eric, Welcome to the Forum. Your friend needs to start by finding out the Chinese characters for her father, grandfather's names - this may be located on gravestones - take a digital photo and post it on the Forum. here are directions for posting: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=comment&action=display&thread=421If the gravestone has Chinese writing, it will probably include the Chinese characters for the name of the ancestral village. If the gravestones do not have Chinese characters - then your friend will need to go through family immigration documents, etc. Chinese genealogy research is not easy - but, well worth the effort to recover the heritage and lineage for the family.
