Hi there, just came across this site..lots of great info!! We are just starting to research my husbands family..we believe his grandfather emigrated around 1900. We really are just starting, as they all died (including his father who was born here) when my husband was quite young we have no info...we're not even sure at this point what his grandfathers name was! My question is this...once we have names and dates(which we should be able to get with some database searching in Canada)..how do we get info from China? We would like to be able to trace his family in China as we believe his grandfather left as many as possibly 12 children there when he left!! Is there a database we can access on the internet or do we need to actually go there to search records? Any info to point us in the right direction would be greatly appreciated...this is going to be a long process I'm sure but we are so excited about doing it! Thanks everyone

Welcome ! After you are able to establish your basic information on Chinese genealogy, family lineage, location of your ancestral village in China etc - this may take a while, because part of the research is also a learning process - then go to the URL below - I have posted contact information for various places in the Pearl River Delta region. Some of these places do not have email capabilities and inquiries may have to be written in Chinese and mailed. I suggest that you wade thru some of questions & answers posted on this website - which should provide you with some information or at least, what to expect. Please do not get discouraged - it is a little bewildering initially, but, the folks in this forum are quite nice and very helpful - good luck ! mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/village.html

Thank you so much!! We know that the "easy" part of this search will be getting the Canadian information. Fortunately we are not too far from the Vancouver public library, which has excellent records of the immigrants who arrived here. Just a matter of wading through everything!! Once we start searchng in China I'm sure progress will be very slow, but it will be worth it to get even a little bit of info. Thanks for your quick reply!!

If you can work out the region they came from, then let us know the surnames, maybe some one here can narrow it down a bit further. If you have headstones with Chinese character, let us know - there are peole here who can read, or may be post can post them here.. talk to people you suspect are relatives. good luck
