When I married a caucasian guy, my grandmother gave him a Chinese name. Have no idea what it says or if it means anything. She wouldn't have tied it into our Chinese family since my Dad had all girls, would she? Any clarification you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks! The name posted in pinyin is "Weiliangchinyu" or in Toisan waa, "wee-leang-din-yu." It is most likely that your grandmother simply took your husband's name and phonetically rendered it into Chinese characters. It has a "lofty" meaning, but in this case, the meaning is secondary to the sound. By chance, is your husband's name "William"?

No, my husband's first name is Kelly. I think you're right about the phonetics though - our last name is Daniels - which sounds like Din Yu, I guess. He's very tall - 6'2 and blond hair - maybe that's why you say it has a "lofty" meaning? I don't speak Chinese, so I'm at a total loss. Thanks for your help!
