Does anyone have any info on Chow/Chu/Gee clan of Wong Tong Village, Jungseng, 15 km from Zengcheng? Our surname is No. 17 on the internet site "The Hundred Families Surnames" at www.geocities.com/Tokyo/3919/hundred.htmlA map was posted by Woodson in "Location/ Location of Wong & Woo Ancestral Villages" on 2 June 2006.

Looks like I've set an all time low of "0" replies!
Are there any CHOW's out there from around Canton China who'd like to tell their Chinese ancestory/village origin?

Dear Geoff: I wish I had more to add about the Chow family. The information I have is limited. This branch of Chows came to the US via Seattle, WA. My relative by marriage's zupu was lost by the hospital. I would like to get the Wong zupu and have it translated. Do you have any suggestions? We may have family in Australia.

It is a Chinese genealogical record which is also called a Jia Pu. Here is a link to an article that explains it more and gives an example:http://genealogy.about.com/library/authors/ucboey1a.htm I have been trying to contact Wong Associations in CA to see if they had a copy like it was suggested that peaceful dove do when peaceful dove posted " How to get a zupu" on this forum. No luck yet! Another reply posted to peaceful dove's query mentioned asking around the ancestral village if one had a copy and getting it translated. I have not been fortunate enough to travel to the ancestral village, but thank everyone on this forum for showing us where it is. I think that the link I listed above was the first place I learned of the Jia Pu/ zupu.

I'm researching our famiy history since arriving in Australia in 1874, with family name CHOW or CHU or GEE. My father visited the our family village in 1930's. I was hoping to make contact with anyone from Wong Tong village Jungseng or have any other info. about the village.

skwdvm, Perhaps you've already checked the Huang Genealogy website by Erik Huang: www.geocities.com/bx_huang/index.html It contains a host of pertinent genealogical information on the Huang2 surname which is equivalent to one version of the surname Wong meaning "yellow". As you know, the Wong surname is huge in terms of numbers, so to pinpoint your particular lineage, you'll likely need to locate a copy of the zupu from your ancestral village. Best of luck in your search........ Raymond

Raymond,
Thanks for reminding me of Erik Huang's site and sending me the link. I will visit the site again. I visited the site in the past, but was not at the stage where I would be in search of a zupu or trying to figure out how to get it translated, and how to acquire software to reproduce Chinese characters and English. I was in awe of his website and feeling a little overwhelmed last fall.I am not fluent in Chinese. I recognize some characters, but not enough to be useful. Last year, I was told about a 3 generational marriage certificate of my great-grandmother's. Someone at NARA San Bruno had offered to copy it for me, but later said it was too large and fragile. I would have had to have it translated, too. The agent said that I could photograph it. It is over 100 yrs. old. It's not the zupu, but it would have been interesting to see what information one would learn from it. You have confirmed that I need to get a copy of the Yiuh Tihn Village, Jung Seng district Wong zupu. Good to hear from you! Thanks for your help. I hope your search is going well. Enjoy the weekend.

Hi Sharon - Just come back from the Zengcheng book launch. On the map I have located the village of Yiu Tien (Yew Tem) - at the top of the village is the railway line to Guangzhou, Guan Hu village (Gwoon Fu) on the right, and Long Tang village ( Loon Tong) on the left. It's quite a big city. Unfortunately I didn't see anyone who has come from there to New Zealand
