Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Gain fundamental techniques in finding previously buried information for tracing your Chinese roots. Topics include: machine translation tools for web pages written primarily in Chinese; finding family names, ancestral information, and pedigree via Internet and paper documents; developing systems for keeping track of sources and archiving your project. About the presenter: May Yan holds a Bachelor's degree in Asian Studies, with a focus in Chinese history, at the University of British Columbia. She appeared as a Chinese genealogy research consultant in "Ancestors in the Attic" - Chinese Connection in 2009 and served as a Chinese Canadian Historical Society of British Columbia (CCHSBC) Board member in 2008 and 2009. In addition to publishing Research Guide to Chinese Genealogy, May also co-authored the anthology Eating Stories: A Chinese Canadian and Aboriginal Potluck with the CCHSBC.
