For those who live in British Columbia Lower Mainland ...
Very important news for anyone who borrows microfilm from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City to view at the Vancouver Public Library (VPL).
The process is changing, but the good news is you can still pick up your material at VPL.
Starting September 1, 2011, you will place your order and pay for your film(s) online through the Family History Library website:
FamilySearch Microfilm Ordering
film.familysearch.org
* Before placing your first order, you will need to register and set up an account.
* There will be an option to have the material sent to the Vancouver Public Library for viewing. (Note: this option will not be visible before September 1, 2011)
* The Family History Library will alert you by email when the material has been sent to VPL, and Library staff will contact you in the usual way (email/phone) to let you know when it has arrived and is available for use.
* Films will continue to be held at the Information desk on Level 6 of the Central Library.
* A valid VPL card will be required for retrieval and viewing of the material.
* All Family History Library material will continues to be for in-library use only.
* No payment is required at VPL as you will have already paid for your material when placing the online order through the Family History Library website.
* Once you have finished using the microfilm, it will be sent back to the Family History Library by VPL.
This new procedure is being introduced as a result of changes at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The Salt Lake Distribution Center is no longer able to support affiliate libraries which do not participate in the online ordering system.
If you require any assistance with the FamilySearch Microfilm Ordering process, please ask the Information staff in Fine Arts and History on Level 6 at the Central Library.
