Kin,
Well done! You never cease to amaze me, for one so young and an ABC with minimal Chinese written language skill, you show time and time again your depth of knowledge even in Hong Kong stories of interest.
For those who are not as well informed, Szeto Wah, who died earlier this year, was a teacher turned politician. He was a fearless fighter for democracy in HK. Google his name and you'll find all you want to know.
I was in Chek Hom or Chikan in June last year. My Hoiping diaolou tour also took in the small township. In was the monsoon season; the river was flowing strongly after much heavy rain. It was quite a sight. Gracious old homes of overseas Chinese lined the river banks. The hybrid architecture gave testimony to the prevalent Western influence.
Tomorrow, I must decide if I'd go ahead with another trip to China next month. I have to apply for a visa and book air ticket without delay. It is likely I'll do it alone.
