LIFE SAVINGS ENDED HIS LIFE. For 40 years Leong Kum, a Chinese, toiled in his tiny laundry in Los Angajes, saving up for the day when he would sail to the land of his ancestors. The day came at last, Leong Kum realised his savings, bought his steamer ticket and got ready. A few hours before the ship sailed, Leong was found on the floor of his kitchen, murdered. His savings of £1300 were missing, and beside the body was an English Bible, in which was underlined the exhortation: "He that walketh upright walketh surely, but he that perverth his ways shall be known."
