The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre (CNHLC) is a registered charity that promotes healthy living and facilitates access to health services for the Chinese community in the UK. CNHLC works closely with both statutory and community organisations to tackle both the physical and psychological aspects of health.
CNHLC is applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant to create an archive recording the occupational engagement of Chinese settlers in London from the 1880s to the present day, increase access to this information, and provide opportunities for sharing learning understanding and enjoying the heritage of Chinese settlement in the UK. The project will include an educational programme for school children in London and culminate in an exhibition for Londoners.
The focus of the archive will be the laundry and catering trades.
This project is in partnership with London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) and London Chinese Community Network (LCCN).
We need your support in order to make this project happen. We need evidence that we will be able to collect items for this archive.
If you have and would like to contribute items, documents or artefacts to the archive, please write a letter of support to us stating that you are willing to do this.
Examples include:
Birth/marriage certificates
Bank loan documents
Business registration documents
Purchase receipts
Photographs
Leases/title deeds
Travel documents/visas
Planning permission
All items submitted will be preserved in LMA¡¦s special facilities. The items will continue to belong to you and you may retrieve them at any time if you so wish. The archive will enable the wider community, including school children and researchers, to learn about Chinese heritage in London.
Please send letters to reach us by 16 March 2007:
