I heard of a Chinese custom of drinking the urine from a prepubescent boy. I hear that the urine is either purchased or a lysee (red envelope) is offered to the family for that privilege. I could not find very much in several English language Google searchs. Some sites on urine therapy have a litany of benefits and the discussion is cross cultural. There are some sites extolling a Central Chinese region where eggs are cooked in these young boy's urine. This practiced is depicted in a scene within the 1996 Chinese film King of MaskclickCan anyone share more details of the Chinese specific custom and what the Chinese believe are the benefits?

I am not sure about drinking urine unless you're Bear Grylls. I do remember when I was a kid in the village, I had been asked and so did other little boys, to pee into a collector. The golden liquid then used as it was, or mixed with something ,to rubbed onto bruises.

I stand corrected. I again viewed the King of Mask and the request of urine from a prepubescent boy was to mix it with carbon to stop the bleeding from a wound. It is sad that I have to watch a movie to learn details about obscure Chinese customs

...used as it was, or mixed with something ,to rubbed onto bruises. From a "rare" (99+% is pure language ie. NOT the mixed form in nowadays) drama

A bit off topic but in desperation one can do things which under ordinary circumstances one would not do. I have a friend who had a stroke and had a long period of rehabilitation which improved him only marginally, he however began drinking his own urine in small doses and he improved dramatically.
It is a moot point whether his drinking of the urine was the cause for his recovery or it was something else; he however improved to lead a near normal life again. One cannot measure exactly scientifically what made him recover, he had nothing to lose in trying out the drinking of own urine to help his recovery. This situation is a rich picking ground for the many quacks promoting their fraudulent charms and potion, they do not come cheap and have every excuse ready should their potions not work. These people prey on the vulnerable and the come in all forms: the Chinese "sinseh"; the Indian "Fakir"; the African 'Witch doctor"; the "Snake oil" seller; vodoo; etc.
IMHO it is better to drink urine than to be taken for a ride by quackery

Joe,
Why did he decide to drink his own urine in small amounts?
I assumed he did this for a reason as oppose to being confused.
Was the reason culturally based?
