China, Collection of Genealogies, 1239-2011 Digital images of Chinese genealogies from various public and private collections. Although some genealogies include information on family branches that migrated to surrounding countries this collection covers families with roots in China. Chinese family genealogies list the origin of the family within China, where the family settled, and gives the generations of the family. Although some genealogies reach as far back as 1500 the time period and content of the records will vary from one genealogy to the next. Additional records may be added to this collection. Check the wiki or browse the collection to determine current coverage. View Images in this Collection Browse through 9,432,901 images Source Information "中國, 族譜收藏, 1239年—2011年." Images. Hi Helen,
I wish I could also read & write Chinese, however, I have managed to perform some successful Chinese genealogy research by recognizing Chinese names. For the annotations in the genealogy books, I do have them translated.
What with the Chinese government efforts via Confucius Institutes on major universities all over the world - one can learn. In my case, I have various interests which I must prioritize if I am ever going to be successful in some of them.
Regards,
Henry

HELP! I just joined proboards and find your questions and comments so interesting and helpful. But right now I need to find out where BUCK TOY village is. I think it is in Guangdong Province but I don't know where.
Sorry to intrude on your posting, but I don't know how to ask my question. Can anyone point out how I can ask a question?
I also used that same online source, Helen. I found our 14-volume clan genealogy there and there are signs our family is spread throughout Guangdong.
Thank you!
Ted

Hi Ted,
Welcome to our Forum.
Please paste the decimal geographic coordinates " 22.439908,113.331177 " without the quotes in Google map and zoom out 1 click so you can see the Chinese characters [ 北台村 ] for Buck Toy / Beitai village. This village is located approximately 8 miles as the crow flies to the SW of the Zhongshan city center. Zhongshan is located about 30 miles west of Hong Kong and 40 miles south of Guangzhou ( Canton ). For additional confirmation that you have located the correct ancestral village - your surname should match up with the predominant surname for that village.

Hi lachinatown,
Thank you for the Buck Toy Club information! The information is very interesting. My wife's grandfather, Sau Chun, traveled to Hawaii perhaps in the 1920's. My own grandfather, Young See Hop, traveled to Hawaii around 1900. I see both of their Chinese surname characters among the Buck Toy Club data.

Hi Henry,
Thank you so much for your reply. I pasted the coordinates and zoomed out 1 click but could not see any Chinese characters. And I also could not find the "Chun" surname. Is there another site that I need to search to find the "Chun" surname? "Zhu Kun Jie" appears when I place my cursor on the red "A" pin. Is Zhu Kun Jie also known as Buck Toy?

Hi Ted, I would like to join Henry and welcome you to our Forum. I visited Buck Toy in 2010, and this link contains a few of the snaps I took. siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=shared&action=display&thread=1181&page=6 , scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see Buck Toy, which continues to the next page. It is not as detailed as it should be. I could have uploaded a few more images. I might make a repeat visit in November to learn a little more. Have fun. Douglas

Ted, what map site are you using? The coordinates Henry was talking about is by using maps.google.com. Unfortunately coordinates are not exactly for different sites, I have found out. maps.google.com/ (unfortunately Google no longer shows Chinese characters and English together) It read Beitaicun 北台村 (in Pinyin), cun or 村 (village) is added to the end. Arrow A: "Zhu Kun Jie Zhongshan, Guangdong, China 126 m SW" is referring to a point of interest. Not sure what it means. Maybe someone can tell. You can see the surname list of villages at this village database site: chinese.rootswiki.legacy1.net/doku.php?id=references:villages:village_database:chanDoug, just basic web search.

OMG thank you so much Helen I found my surname I went to Shen 沈 and selected Guangdong and had 2 options Not sure which, if either, would/may be the right one Huiyang 惠陽 or Chaoan 潮安 Village name is Wu Shek (formerly Cheung Dai) I believe it is in Zheng Xing county so neither of these may be our line (see pic) If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate it.
