Thanks lachinatown - brought back memories of my trip in 2010 to both the Great Wall and the Hutongs

The subject line 'Riding the Rails' inspired me to offer this image from late 1932 of the 'Woosung Ghost Train' - although there is no riding going on. My adoptive grand-uncle Arthur's then wife Gladys (nee Richardson) wrote on the back: "This is between Woosung & Shanghai. This is called the ghost-train; during the so called War, it used to be driven in & do the damage it wanted to, & then do a flit out again. I believe it did do some damage to the Japs; they couldn’t make it out. Anyhow, when the Chinese retreated they put it on fire, & now it stands just a skeleton of a train riddled with holes. Glad. That’s Arthur & his Cousin you can see [at the front of the train]."
