Camscanner is a document scanner for an android & iOS smartphones & tablets (recommend a back facing camera). Camoscanner takes a picture of your document and the software allows, cropping, light management, focusing, image stabilization and conversion to pdf. You can then share or upload the document to your other devices.
The app does everything as advertised. The android version is the only app I have tested. There is a free version and a paid update for U$4.99 android and U$3.99 iOS. You can review the app stores for limitations.
Pleco is a Chinese dictionary and OCR app. You can demo the OCR, but in order to save any scanned words you will need to purchase a license. The android OCR license is U$9.99 and the iOS OCR license is U$11.99
When Kerry initially reviewed~click the app 6 months ago, there was a warning by the company regarding the OCR to wait for further development. It is safe to say that the current version works well. Camscanner integrates with Pleco so you can digitize your Chinese characters by having Pleco read your images directly from Camscanner.
COCR2~click has always been the go-to OCR with 90% accuracy. It is a very old program and requires additional steps such as converting your scans to .BMP format before converting one character at a time. There has been no development since 2006, although the programmer can still be contacted. COCR2 works only on older version of Windows OS.
Finally, I use the free version of Evernote to share your documents and digitized characters with your other devices.
Some libraries and archives will not allow you to bring a scanner because most scanners will touch the originals and there is a potential for damage. Now I can bring a single device to the archives, which IMO is a game changer.
