A photo of kids reading comics - just like my husbands childhood in the 1940s. And a couple of comics on display at the H K History museum

The photo brings back memeories of my childhood in Hong Kong in the 1950s. We kids used to spend Saturday afternoons after school, or Sundays at the rental book stalls in the alleys or cul-de sac, pay a small amount in fee, and read comic books. Our favourites were kung fu epics, but folk stories, legends, myths and historical events were also popular. Many of us had our introduction to the best known Chinese claasics such as The Trek West, (better known as Monkey King on TV,) and The Water Margin, this way. People of my generation from Hong Kong always look back to those days with great deal of nostalgia of a simpler time. Thanks for bring it up Helen.

I actually took these photos with you in mind Douglas. I knew you would have had the same childhood experiences as Lap Chi. Pity I didn't see a kite flying one. Please see if your Library has ordered A Rising Son in the Land of Nine Dragons A Eurasian Boy's coming of age during Hong Kong's Lost Era of the '50s and '60s Paperback by Anthony G Tebbutt (Author) www.amazon.com/Rising-Son-Land-Nine-Dragons/dp/0615766056I got our Library to order it - a fantastic story of that era.
