Presentations by Mitzi Espinosa Luis and Felicia Lowe on the Chinese in Cuba
Mitzi Espinosa Luis will speak about her book Chinese Footprints on This Side of the Atlantic,
Huellas de China en este lado del Atlántico, and share a presentation of accompanying images covering the history of the Hongmen Min Chih Tang of Cuba. Accompanying her will be Manni Liu who will provide translations.
avana’s el barrio Chino, the oldest Chinatown in Latin America, is undergoing a revitalization. Meet some old timers and Chinese Cubans who are committed to this endeavor in this video excerpt of a future documentary by veteran filmmaker Felicia Lowe.

Huellas de China en este lado del Atlántico by Mitzi Espinosa Luis
Espinosa Luis has gathered a selection of Works that focus on the historic, social, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic role of Chinese emigrants in American nations. Well-known researchers present here interesting and valuable information on various topics including transcendent moments in the historical, social, and cultural life of the Chinese association Min Chih Tang, founded in Havana, Cuba, on January 15, 1887.
BIOGRAPHIES
MITZI ESPINOSA LUIS吕美枝 (Cienfuegos, Cuba, 1965)
Trained in library and archive science since 1985, Mitzi Espinosa Luis worked in the University of Cienfuegos, Provincial Historical Archive of Cienfuegos and the People’s Library “Los Sitios” in La Habana. She volunteers for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in that community. As the descendant of a Chinese, she participates actively in the activities of the Chinese community in Cuba and the recovery of history and traditions. Now as the cultural liaison for the Min Chih Tang, she continues to help researchers, filmmakers, photographers, and individuals track family histories. Espinosa Luis has participated in various library and archive meetings and events in Cuba, Trinidad Tobago, Guangzhou, China, and Vancouver, Canada.
Manni Liu is a senior marketing communications professional with many years of experience in developing strategic communication and marketing plans; defining brand positioning and messaging; and conducting customer and market research. In addition to marketing skills, Liu has over 20 years experience curating Chinese art. A former executive director at the Chinese Culture Foundation, Liu was born in Hong Kong and raised in Ecuador. She speaks Cantonese, English, and Spanish. She received her B.A. in Art History from the University of California, at Los Angeles, and an M.A. in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Southern California.
Felicia Lowe is an award winning independent television producer, director, and writer with more than 30 years of production experience. Her innovative works have screened in film festivals, museums and are used in classrooms across the country. In addition to her documentary work, Lowe was a broadcast journalist and taught film production and scriptwriting at San Francisco State University and Stanford University. She’s been actively involved with the preservation of the Angel Island Immigration Station.
