My great grandfather (Vun Kon Moi, a hakka) emigrated from Zijin, Guangdong to North Borneo (now known as Sabah in Malaysia) sometime in the period between 1880 to 1900 and I was told that he landed in Kudat at the tip of the Borneo island. In the search I have made so far I understand that it is important to know the name of the village he was from inorder that I will be able to trace the roots, and also that during those time people of the same surname would tend to live together. My question now is which villages in Zijin have the most Vun (The surname can also be spelled as Voon, Woon, Wen). I know that once I can locate the village I will then be able to try to locate the "jiapu" (if it still exist) and hopefully from there I will be able to find my distance relatives

Hi David, I was wondering where Zijin [ population about 35,000 ] is located in Guangdong province. As the crow flies, it is about 180 km [ 112 miles ] NE from Hong Kong and it is 48 km [ 30 miles] east of Heyuan City.
