Thanks Henry & tyuti1668.
Is the county called Jungseng in Cantonese or Zengcheng in Mandarin & the village called Ngar Yiew in Cantonese? Do you know the name of the village in Mandarin?

#1 增邑 (county) ??都 (town) 雅瑤(village)人氏 The 3 words under Zeng Yi are are really hard to make out. Is there a better image of that gravestone? Or, if they are scanned images, could they be scanned at a higher resolution. My best guess of those words: 滇寧邨 dian ning cun (mandarin phonetics) 邨 is another word for village btw, googling 雅瑤 (Ya Yao), found out that the Ng's first migrated to Guangdong from the north to Ya Yao before spreading out to other regions.

Thanks everyone for your info.
Henry has already used a high resolution.
Louisa (Australian born chinese) & husband NG (China born) were the parents of sons Ng Kum Tong & George Yook Tong, both born in China. When the family decided to move to Australia, Ng Kum Tong (aged 18) was denied access. He had to travel onto New Zealand. Attempts were made to reunite the family but without success. This is an example of Australia's immigration restrictions in 1920's.

Henry,
Found one news item that mentioned 增城市花都區雅瑤鎮
Zengcheng Huadu District YaYao Township
From one of your maps Huadu City is on the expressway just north of Guangzhou, not far from Baiyun airport.
Cool, just discovered Google maps of China, ditu.google.cn ditu means map or maps. YaYao town is just south Huadu City. I think ditu.google will be an invaluable tool.

tyuti1688 et al,
Regarding the following:
#1
ÔöÒØ (county) ??¶¼ (town) ÑŬŽ(village)ÈËÊÏ …Ç(NG)ÓñÌÃ(Yook Tong)¹«Ö®Ä¹ ½K(dead)Ãñ‡ø(ROC era)Ø¥ÆßÄê(27 i.e.1938)ÎåÔÂ(May) Ø¥ÆßÈÕ (27th)
I am seeing ½KÃñ‡øØ¥ÆßÄê ÎåÔ إ¾ÅÈÕ, not Ø¥ÆßÈÕ, ie 29th day not 27th day of the 5th month
If that is the case, and assuming they are using the Chinese Calender, that would mean Ãñ‡ø 27Äê5ÔÂ29ÈÕ = Î÷Ôª1938Äê6ÔÂ26ÈÕ(ÐÇÆÚÈÕ) that is, CE 26th June, 1938. This then seems to align with the Gregorian date listed on the right hand side of the gravestone, which also aligns with the date on your second posting.
Regards, Ah Gin

Cool, just discovered Google maps of China, ditu.google.cn ditu means map or maps. YaYao town is just south Huadu City. I think ditu.google ... Your research is going to "wrong" direction. The correct one is 增城市沙埔镇雅瑶村 Electronic MAPs of mainland China ditu.google.com (MapABC)-nothing fancy. Can't find village detail map.baidu.com (Mapbar) - better than above. City Driving route suggestion is accurate but can't copy & paste to find village (just shown the the name in the town map AND need finding it urself) . 51ditu.com- Most user friendly. copy & paste the village name + city =Result (up to 100m level)
