My family name is Lim but my mother's was Hum. My maternal grandmother was a Seto. My parents are all gone now but my 22 year old son is now traveling in China and would like to see our ancestral villages. I am interested in finding the Hum Village. My mother said it was in Hoi Ping, Hum Village, East Mountain "Ung Sang", as my Grandma used to say. She also said the Lim Village that my mom married into was a day's walk away. Can anyone offer guidance on how to find it?

Cynthia, Regardng the Seto surname for your maternal grandmother, there are tons of Seto's scattered throughout numerous villages in Hoiping District. Click on to the following link to view the huge listing of Seto villages: www.c-c-c.org/villagedb/search.cgi I made a trip to rural China and on a tip from a relative, did a day trip to Chek Hom (Chikan) market town in Hoiping to check out the presence of Seto's there. There I found a plaque along the waterfront (lined with shophouses and European-style buildings) commemorating the founding of Chek Hom 350 years ago by the Seto and Kwan clans. Raymond
