Were you family in business anywhere in 1913. Great to see family listed 103 years ago.

Gina, you'll find Helen and her husband the nicest of people to know. I met them twice already, most recently when I was in Auckland in May. In about a month's time, we'll meet again when Helen and her hubby come to Sydney for a wedding reception.
Happy days.

Will do Gina. Helen will only be here for a short stay, I'll probably get one full day to have fun together. While I was in Auckland, they took me to many well known sights, and their daughter facilitated a tour of Auckland's tallest building. I don't think I can do better.

International Chinese Business Directory of the World for the Year 1913 : A Comprehensive List of Prominent Chinese Firms and Individuals... Kin, Wong San Francisco, CA: International Chinese Business Directory Co., Inc., 1913. First and Only Edition. Hardcover. Printed in both Chinese and English and offering all possible business connections from opium dealers to physicians and laundries to lawyers, this monumental directory and exhaustive work of organizational and typographical excellence offers an unparalleled snapshot of the Chinese business world as of 1913. The title continues "in parts of China, Japan, India Proper, Indo China, Straits Settlements, Malay Peninsula, Siam, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Philippines, Canada, United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, and West Indies, Etc.". Red cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in black onto upper board and spine, large thick 8vo (9-1/8 inches tall), pp. vi, 1591, (1187 misnumbered as 1178), [217], [4 - blanks], illustrated throughout with ads and photo reproductions. Volume with wear, soil and stains, glue repair to back strip at joint cracks, old cloth tape repair to back hinge, linen tape repair to front hinge, text toned with minor chipping to fore-edge of first few preliminary and terminal leaves, lacks a single ad leaf [p. 29/30], an occasional ink address correction using Chinese characters noted, otherwise text is unmarked throughout. Still a solid and very useable copy. Good. Item #3716 A rare directory, this copy has been collated with the only other original copy located by OCLC, held institutionally in California. An excellent historical turn of the century reference for Chinese genealogical research and an aid to finding the locations of Chinese secret societies (including Chee Kong Tong Society [Hongmen], Chung Hwa National Association, Chinese Benevolent Association, Wong Kong Har Tong Association, etc.), every type of Chinese business and many long-lost historical Chinatowns from around the world. Canadian entries run from pp. 1354-1385, the U.S. entries from pp. 1387-1558 with the California entries alone covering from pp. 1394-1475. Interestingly, "The work of accumulating and arranging the necessary data for such a book was commenced and well advanced when San Francisco was devastated by the great earthquake and fire of April, 1906. Our plant and all of our records were destroyed, and the work had to be begun all over. It was several years before things were in shape to resume the work, and this book represents no small outlay of time and perseverance." from the introduction. www.harropianbooks.com/pages/books/3716/wong-kin/international-chinese-business-directory-of-the-world-for-the-year-1913-a-comprehensive-list-of
