Searching for origins of the family Fong or Kuan. Born between 1883 and 1899 approximately, three brothers. Two brothers to Montreal Canada before 1912 (Charlie Wee Fong and George Fong "Quinn" both restauranteurs) and one to Cuba (Francisco Fong-merchant). Ones sister remained at home. Charles remained in Montreal and George moved to Ottawa. Family history only states Taishan as their origin. Any leads helpful. Would markings on a tombstone reflect village of origin?
Hi Quinners, Some years back, I had done an ancestral chart for this surname, Fong/Kuang (鄺/邝). It was designed and constructed for someone with this surname from Liverpool, England who had an eighty-years old uncle then (2011) from Canada who had provided him his ancestral records (zupu). The cover of the zupu is shown below: This surname was changed from Fang (方) to Kuang/Fong (鄺) by the progenitor in Guangdong, Kuang Yi Ping (鄺以平 ) in the year 1,121AD. His son, Kuang Zun (鄺諄), has three sons and two daughters. The younger of the two daughters married Chen Hui (陳輝) (also known as Chen Fengtai (陳鳳臺)) as the first of his two wives. Chen Fengtai is the main progenitor for the surname Chen (陳) in Guangdong and is the ancestor for many Chen (陳) in this Forum including the brother-in-law of my Sifu, Henry Tom. The maternal side of Henry’s children also descended from Kuang Yi Ping (鄺以平); descending at Generation 7 from Kuang Tian Xi (鄺天錫). The chart I had done then is shown below: Philip

My Dear Friend Philip,
My Taishan nephew found a copy of this same genealogy book for me in a Taishan bookstore about 10 years ago.
I asked my daughter Linda to bring it to my former 93 year year old father-in-law. He was a teacher in Taishan before coming to America and had Chinese hand laundries and finally a partnership in a sewing garment factory in Chinatown New York City.
He was so excited when Linda gave him the Kwong genealogy and asked where she got it. She explained that it was a gift from me - then, after he found his name and the names of his sons - he could not stop telling my daughter to tell me thanks you. Afterwards, I sent an email to my Taishan nephew to return to the Taishan bookstore and buy every copy of this Kwong genealogy book and to send them to me. He did and sent me around 15 copies, which I promptly distributed to my children and to all members of my ex-wife's side of the family. Since, I will be in Taishan this Fall, I will go back to this bookstore to see if they have re-stocked this book - if they did, I might still grab a couple copies.

Henry My Dear Sifu Henry, If available, do get a copy for me as well. What I have is only scan of those sections relevant to that Fong person ancestry I was constructing the ancestral lineage for. Another Fong from Malaysia could not find his ancestry from that part that I have. Philip

There were many Fong families in Montreal / Ottawa that appear to have immigrated around the same time. Is there anyone that has done DNA testing to find love inks and confirm family links?

Searching for origin of Tong Fong, immigrated to Montreal, Canada on July, 1922 at age of 14. The ship’s manifest says he is from town or village of Tong Har in Taishan. I would like to know of any relatives in Montreal who would have sponsored him. Could there be any connection to Quinn Fong or Charlie Fong in Montreal?
