Hi, Once again, I'm stuck with helping a friend locate his ancestral village that he never visited in Panyu County. I've tried various maps, Google, Baidu, tianditu, but reached a deadend. Tianditu gave a few business location in Panyu County, Baidu pointed to a closed station, and google just show the Panyu County. Not sure if this village is still around. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's what we know: The clan: Kwan 關 The County and village: 番寓西塱乡關 Thank you so much, dragon008

Hi:
Ancient Panyu County is no more. What used to be Panyu County 番禺縣 is now divided up into districts of the city of Guangzhou, which is why it is difficult to locate places that used to be in the old county. There is a Panyu District 番禺區 in Guangzhou, but the boundaries of that district are different from the old county's boundaries.
I think the village for which you are looking is now located in Guangzhou City, Liwan District 荔灣區. It seems also to be the location of a metro station with the same name: Xilang Station 西塱站. I ask other Forum members to confirm that this is the correct location.
Xilang (Cantonese: Sai Long) does seem to be village in which the Kwan clan is prominent. I have seen references to a Sai Long Kwan genealogy but it does not appear to be available online.
