My China Roots is currently running a special Lunar New Year discount. They are offering a 2nd year of free access on each subscription signup between now and February 24th 2024. Go to www.mychinaroots.com/subscription-plans to redeem this offer! My China Roots is a genealogy and family history platform providing tools to people of Chinese heritage to build their tree, find records of their immigrant ancestors and discover their Chinese ancestry. Over the past few months alone, they've added 1.5 million immigration, census, burial and civil records of Chinese ancestors in North America. Some of their key features include: Surname and Village databases Searching in Chinese and English Searchable Chinese clan book (zupu) database Family tree builder with bilingual Chinese-English name support Record match notifications Just having an online access to the two genealogy booksets for both my Tan ( around 2,000 pages ) & Lee clan ( over 8,000 pages ) that have been processed by OCR software so I can search for the names of my ancestors by name electronically is just so easy. I do have the hardcopies Tan (2 volumes) and Lee (7 volumes), but, the access on the My China Roots is so well worth the subscription - now, 2 years for a one year discounted rate is just too good to pass up. Henry - Thanks for the notice on this! I'm researching the Soo Hoo family, but I'm still trying to track information in the U.S. Is My China Roots good for the North American aspect of the resource, or does it emphasize the Jupu and other Chinese records more?

tufu2006, The 2 year membership for $89 USD is a no brainer ! My China Roots (MCR) has about 15,000 zupus online and many have been OCR indexed so that you can perform electronic name searches on massive genealogies. Try the books that say they have not been indexed because many have been. Great easy way to trace back a pedigree line of descent. MCR has been adding on some new features to their database such as the recent 1950 Decennial Census records & more. On Feb 28, there will be a free online webinar on the MCR website from Roots Tech ( largest genealogy conference in the world ): www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/session/introducing-my-china-roots-a-genealogy-platform-for-tracing-chinese-ancestorsIf you are in the States, we just had our annual 3 day Chinese Genealogy Workshop in Las Vegas Feb 5-8, 2024. Huihan Lie, the owner of MCR will be my Keynote speaker at our January 2025 Chinese Genealogy Workshop in Las Vegas. Also, we will have another 3 day workshop " Hands-on Tutorials for Chinese Genealogy Research" in Las Vegas - July 28 - August 1, 2024 - if interested, email me at " Tomclan@Gmail.com. I can also send you 2 Excel files that cover Chinese entering San Francisco & Honolulu from 1881 - 1955 ( 136K entries ). They can be searched electronically. This really important information about every trip made between China & the US - some case files are huge, they contain photos, names of people & villages in Chinese, etc. When you make a match you send the Case File number & Bin location the the NARA facility in San Bruno - just south of San Francisco so they can pull the records for you or if you cannot travel - they will make a copy to send to you.[ www.archives.gov/san-francisco ] Henry

tufu2006,
My China Roots added some Chinese Exclusion-era records you can now view.
San Francisco: Registers of Chinese Laborers Returning to the U.S., 1882-1888
This source records Chinese laborers who were allowed reentry into the U.S. from traveling abroad – as long as they had already been in the U.S. prior to November 17, 1880.
North Dakota and Washington: Chinese Arriving Passenger Arrivals and Disposition, 1903-1944
This source records the entry status of all arrivals at the western ports of Vancouver, Seattle, Sumas, and Portal. For many of those listed as “Denied,” you can see they were interrogated for a few days, but still denied entry without a clear reason provided.
Portland, Oregon: Chinese Immigrant Landing Records and Applications for Admission, 1882-1903
Instead of a log book, this collection includes landing applications for Chinese and Japanese immigrants arriving via Portland and Port Townsend. Many were merchants who had to provide letters from witnesses confirming they were who they claimed they were and attested to their good character. Some letters even have photographs!
