I am trying to trace my genealogy and have difficulty due to language. So i am really excited to find this website.
I have not yet read all the old postings, which may have an answer for my question, but instead have hoped that one of you may direct me properly rather than me trying to find a needle in a haystack.
I am looking for my grandfather's village. My grandparents have migrated to Malaysia when younger.
Also i was hoping to able to trace my family lineage as far as I can, although i dont know how. I cannot read chinese and that adds up more problems.
my grandfather name: Àî ÈÙÅæ the village name is : ÈAÁִ壬–|î^À̨ɽ¿h, V–|£¬ÖЇø my grandmother name: Îé, ýR ´ó I dont know the village name.
Any help that you can give to guide me how i can continue my family history search would be very grateful.

Just type in "Wah Lam" for the village name at this site www.c-c-c.org/villagedb/search.cgi and you will see it is located near Gongyi. Actually it is just south of Gongyi. Dongtou is a Lee village. If you wish to get a map get in touch with Henry Tom. In order to see your Chinese script you need to goto View and select Simplified Chinese.

anyone has any idea what it means when my grandfather said that "tung liem chun" is the old village, and "wah lim chun" is the new one? The family originated from Tung Liem Chun ans subsequently built a house in Wah Lim Chun. In many cases the villages are fairly close to each other. You may have relatives still living in the old village.

Woodson, I replayed my grandfather's recording and i believe you are right. i directly spelt Tung Liem from toi shan wa. Based on the village search for Tung tau heung, the nearest "sound alike" ones to tung liem are "chung lam" and "tung nam".
Does anyone understand toi shan wa to know which is the one for tung liem?
