Hello - I'm researching my husband's family and have been lucky enough to retrieve copies of great-grandfather's immigration records. He was born in San Francisco, but returned to China for education and resided with his family in Chung How village in Hueng Shan district.
The village is said to be "about 30 miles" from Hong Kong, where his father had a rice store.
I'm interested in locating the village on maps and further direction on research for families in that locality.
I would also love to correspond with folks who have families who migrated from Chung How to San Francisco or Hawaii 1870 - 1930.

Chung How (Yongkou) is less than 20km east of Zhongshan City (I believe this to be the place the rice store is located, not Hong Kong which is across the delta and more than 30 miles away). Hueng Shan is now called Zhongshan City (county).

Can you point the way to and help me locate the area on a good topo map?
The immigration file does quote several sources that state that the father's business was in Hong Kong and later documents state both parents were living in Hong Kong. What is the distance between Yongkou, Zhongshan and Hong Kong?
I have the impression that his father did not live with the family, but rather lived in Hong Kong and traveled to Chung How village several times a year.
I do have great-grandfather's signature (in chinese) - are there english language resources or chinese speaking liasons to help locate local records for the family?
