I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and I'm trying to track down my matrilineal side of my family. My mom is constantly running into people from her very small village on the streets of Toronto (TO is a very large city). She tells me there were a little over 200 people in the village. With the help of my mom I was able to find this information out with the help of www.c-c-c.org/villagedb/display.cgi? : County: Toishan Area: 8 Heung: Kwong Hoi Heung Subheung: North Gate My mom is from a tiny little village "Dong Nam [Lee]." She lived not too far from the village of "Chung Pong" where both the Wong's and Lau's resided. But the real information my mom told me was that she lived down the road from the villiage "Yuet Ming." Apparently her village, Dong Nam, was built because Yuet Ming was getting too large for the Lau's (because family relatives in the Americas were sending money home). The wealthier families were able to move just outside of the Yuet Ming to build newer homes (which my grandpa tells me are now falling apart). I'm trying to find the exact location on a map and I can't find a Dong Nam anywhere or if anyone has ever heard of it.

Can't find Dong Nam on my map either. But did see a Chung Pong if it is of any help to you. However, it may be on the set of our moderator's , Henry, more precise and detail maps. www3.telus.net/arts/wunhu/chung pong.jpg[/img]

cherrybomb,
It wasn't clear on your post whether you had found Chung Pong, Yuet Ming and "Dong Nam" villages all listed at the c-c-c.org village database website. If not, my quick review of the villages located at the North Gate subheung of Kwong Hoi Heung indicates that all 3 of the villages of interest are in the North Gate subheung, which seems to make sense since your mom mentioned that these 3 villages were not far from each other. I believe "Dong Nam" village is actually indicated as "“ì“„ / Nam Tong / —« / Lau" on the list of villages. Check the Chinese characters with your mom or with old letters your mom may still have. As woodson mentioned, perhaps Henry the resident cartographer can pinpoint all 3 villages on a more detailed map of the area.
