Hi
My Grandfather was a Chinaman in Western Samoa married to my Grandmother Aiga in the early 1900's and had 8 children and my Uncle Koko was the eldest.
Unfortunately he passed away when my Mum, number 6 was only about 12 or so, she cant really recall much at all. He was known as Wong Tung and also by another name of Ah Kuoni but the family have now taken Wong Tung as our family name and not sure if that is correct or not.
He arrived in Samoa on a ship with his brother. His brother returned with the ship but because my Grandfather had so many kids he remained on the Island and had his own plantation.
Would love to try and make contact with anyone who might have any information.
Delilah

Deliah, Apparently, the sever supporting this Forum is dropping some responses - I am including my response from yesterday below: If you can get a digital photo of your grandfather's gravestone - this would probably provide you with the Chinese characters for your grandfather's name - birth/death dates, ancestral village, county, and province in China. Then you would know your true Chinese surname and with your grandfather's name - the village chief of your ancestral village in China could be contacted and he/she can try to find out if you still have relatives still living in the village and if there are any copies of your family's genealogy book available for copying. The following is the URL for a thread on this Forum regarding research Chinese in Samoa. It has a reference to a book on the Chinese in Samoa by Nancy Tom. Good Luck ! siyigenealogy.proboards28.com/index.cgi?board=names&action=display&thread=108Henry
