Ta Jia Hao,
I am looking for my family generational poem. I was born in Indonesia. My grandpa lost it during the Independence War. I only have the ranking to one generation after me. Please help.
The name is 谭 from Xinhui. Just in case you it is not showing up, it is Tan with the Xi in the upper right. Please email me at classic_beauty@hotmail.com

In 1985, the surname Tan in Xinhui ranked 9th in popularity, with a population of 26317. It consisted of two major origins (one referred to as the Lingchong-Nandan Tan surname), was found in 18 market regions, and included 7 xiang (Village clusters) with Tan membership of over 1000 (Xinhui Xianzhi [Xinhui County Gazette], Chapter 6, 1985?, external link from www.xinhui.gov.cn, in simplified Chinese). As you can imagine, it is unlikely that there is only one generational poem (zipai) for all the Tans in Xinhui. That being said, at www.tsinfo.com.cn there is a link to the Tan surname (Tan shi) of Taishan. In that article (in simplified Chinese) by Tan Yonghong and Tan Chaodun, there is a reference to the Tan lineage of Lingchong village, Haiyen Market region, Taishan. The Tans of this cluster claim to come from Lingchong in Xinhui. As well, it lists three different generational poems for the Lingchong Tans of Haiyen. If this is relevant to you, it is quite possible because of the connection between these two places (including the same placename) that one or more of these generational poems might also be in use by the Lingchong Tans of Xinhui.

Is this the same as Sunwui, in siyip? And is not Tan a version of Chan?

Yes, Sunwui is the Siyi dialect form for the pinyin Xinhui (New Settlement) of the same characters. No, this Tan is different and in Siyi is romanized as Hom, Ham, Hum, Tom, Tam. Your Tan is most likely a Min (Fujian or Hokkien or Chaozho) dialect pronunciation for the surname Chan/Chen (Old).
