Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me. My grandmother was Chinese from Nanjing and fled Nanjing in the war to go to Hong Kong. She was from the Cao family. I have heard her family came from Nanjing and i want to know more about the family and their origins and her family background....i want to do a family trace on them if possible and find out if we have a family Jia Pu and ancestral village? I wonder if anyone knows anything who could help me of where to start....
Many thanks
Jamie

Jamie,
Welcome to our Forum.
As you probably already know, Chinese genealogy books only include the names of males. So, in order to acquire a family genealogy book, you will need to know the Chinese characters for the names of the father and grandfather of your grandmother and the Chinese characters for the name of the village where your grandmother was born. It also helps to have the Chinese name of the nearest market town to the village, because the villages are very hard to locate unless you have this additional town to help locate the village. When you have this information, then you can contact the local Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and they can contact the village chief and ask him to identify possible relatives and try to find and copy your family genealogy book.
