Hi all....don't know where this should be posted... Well now that I have found my living relatives in China, Cheung Dai village (now Wu Sak har Chuen, lower village where they live) I am trying to make plans to go there. I want to do a lot, Beijing, Great wall, Xi'an (terra cotta warriors) Shanghai etc and of course Hong Kong. Do I need a translator with me all the time?
Hope to spend 3-4 days with relatives and then another 2-3 days after touring China.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips, tricks etc to getting around, where to stay, what to see etc. etc.
Also when I get to Guangdong I would need a guide/translator to get me to the village and speak with my relatives and then over to Guangzhou to help with speaking to my uncle. Does anyone know of such a guide/translator or how to find one, preferably one someone has used and was positive.
Henry I know your nephew does this but does he guide in the area I need?
Any help planning this trip would be GREATLY appreciated Really excited about going over

Hi Harc3, This is a recent thread that offers some tips: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=culture&action=display&thread=949Your visit to China should probably be comprised of a China tour linked with a visit to your ancestral village. But, there are so many ways to do this - it is hard to advise you effectively without knowing what your plans are. There are "standard" China tours, private tours, and DIY type tours. The key factors are how many people in your group, class of service & accommodations, how much is your budget, amount of time available for your tour, etc. It is better if you establish your plans - send me a copy of your itinerary and then we can do a Skype call to review your options. Since 1987 - I have visited China over 30 plus times, as a government official, a director in a large commercial company, and as a private citizen and have visited probably over 50 cities and also taken several different kinds of tours and even did one that I planned for 36 people. I believe I can offer some valid tips. You are correct, my nephew would not be the guide/translator that you need to escort you to your ancestral village and to translate for you in Zhengcheng county. A couple of Forum members have had pretty good service from the following Guangzhou based company: Su Zhiwei Manager of Europe & America Dept. China Merchants Travel Phone: 86-20-83313156, 83312843 Fax: 86-20-83312845 Email addresses: Email zhiweisu@vip.sina.com Regards, Henry
