I’m hoping to connect my research with that of others. Are any of the following names familiar to other members? I’ve used traditional characters and local pronunciation first, then in parenthesis, simplified characters, when different, and Mandarin pronunciation.
1) 李緯聖 Lī Vīsëin (李纬圣 Lĭ Wĕishèng): my great grandfather. He married in China and had a son, then immigrated to the US around 1885 and had a second family in Connecticut. I’ve also seen his name written 李偉聖 (李伟圣).
2) 李總聖 Lī Dūngsëin (李总圣 Lĭ Zǒngshèng): Lī Vīsëin’s younger brother.
3) 李桃穩 Lī Hâovūn (李桃稳 Lĭ Táowěn): Lī Vīsëin’s granddaughter by his first wife. Hâovūn was engaged to, and presumably, married a man with the surname of 吳 M˜ (吴 Wú).
4) 徐祿袵 Chuĩ Lùkngĩn (徐禄袵 Xú Lùrèn): Lī Vīsëin’s first wife. She lived in 西坑 Xäi Häng (Xī Kēng) village in 衝蔞 Chünglẽo (冲蒌 Chònglóu) township.
5) 陳文洛 Chĩn Mũnlōk (陈文洛 Chén Wénluò): Lī Vīsëin’s nephew, by one of his sisters. Chĩn Mũnlōk’s style was 志照 Jïjël (Zhìzhào). He worked in a medicinal herb store in 沙坪 Sâ Pẽin (Shā Píng).
6) 陳文邦 Chĩn Mũnböng (陈文邦 Chén Wénbāng): Lī Vīsëin’s nephew, Chĩn Mũnlōk’s younger brother. Chĩn Mũnböng’s style was 志昌 Jïchëng (Zhìchāng). He worked in a medicinal herb store in 那金 Nã Gïm (Nà Jīn).
7) 錫泮 Xëkpön (锡泮 Xīpàn): Chĩn Mũnlōk’s son. Xëkpön was his style; I don’t know his given name. Xëkpön moved to New York City, where he worked in a tailor shop. Thanks in advance for any information or leads.
