Hi Luna,
Please post a clear photo of the gravestone that has the name of your ancestral village - the inscribed characters on the gravestone may differ from the Chinese characters you provided.

Hi Jenninbel: I would like to add some additional information to what Greg has provided to you - and yes, you are doing very well:-) Perhaps the Gook Doo Sam Heong Society has records that would indicate which of the 3 villages the family comes from & more importantly the Chinese name of the father or male members of the great grandmother - the Chinese genealogy books will only record the married names of the family/clan. The Chengs come from anyone of the 3 villages: Here is a Google map of the 3 villages: Google MapIf you switch to the imagery for the map area - it does show that the area has been modernized> It looks like Ping Lam is divided into 3 separate villages: If you have the Chinese names of a male member of the great grandmother's family, Al Cheng may have a zupu that covers the lineages from all 3 villages. If Al does not have a group visiting ancestral villages in the near future, I also usually lead a group of Chinese Americans to visit their ancestral villages. My next China trip will be during April 2025 - if you are interested in joining our group. Please contact me directly at: "Tomclan@Gmail.com " Good luck ! Henry

tchow3,
I am an ABC and cannot read or write Chinese.
I can speak Taishanese and can recognize Chinese characters & with this ability and my professional background as a cartographer /geographer - I am able to help locating ancestral villages. There are various members of this Forum that are Chinese literate and can translate for you.

chrischris, If you want to re-connect with your grand uncle, visit your ancestral village and/or trace your family lineage - you will need the Chinese characters for the name of your ancestral village and the Chinese characters for the name of your grandfather. Usually, overseas Chinese have most of this information inscribed on their gravestones in Chinese characters - you may want to check: Find a Grave www.findagrave.com/BillionGraves billiongraves.com/searchNan'an (Chinese: 南安; pinyin: Nán'ān; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lâm-oaⁿ; lit. 'southern peace') is a county-level city of southern Fujian Province, People's Republic of China. It is under the administration of Quanzhou City and as of 2023, had a total population of 1,663,542.[1][2] More than 4,000,000 overseas Chinese trace their ancestry to Nan'an.[1] from Wikipedia.
