Hello Mariela, Do you have more information about your Soo Hoo relatives such as their approximate birth/death dates, their Village name in China, pictures of tombstones where there may be Chinese writing indicating their Chinese names and Village? Immigration papers or any letters or envelopes with Chinese characters on them? Is there anything written on the back of your photos?
This would be very helpful.
Best Regards,
Fay Chee
Mariela, I just watched a very interesting and informative video about Kowloon on YouTube. Here is the link if you are interested:

Hi Dan,
Happy Lunar New Year to you!
I was shocked when I saw that video about Kowloon.........I had no idea someplace like that existed, nor did I realize it was in Hong Kong and not on the Mainland......you learn something new (and astonishing) everyday!
Best Regards, Fay Chee

Dear Seto, Situ, Szeto, Soo Hoo members, I was just informed of the passing of Mr Szeto Liang, Manager of the Situ Library in Chikan, Guangdong, China. Below is his Eulogy sent from his nephew Wing Tak Szeto of the Hong Kong Szeto Clan Association: Google Translation always uses 'Stuart for Szeto': Eulogy Dear leaders, relatives and relatives of Uncle Liang: Castle Peak without words; Heaven is in tears. Today, with great sorrow, we deeply mourn the model of the Stuart clan, our respected patriarch Stuart Liang. Uncle Liang is a man of integrity, caring, approachable and noble character. Since he retired from the education front, he has served as the director of Stuart's popular library for more than 20 years. He is open-minded and helpful. Although he was in his twilight years, he still wrote and published a series of monographs and articles, which made great contributions to the inheritance and development of the culture of religion and ethics. Now, Uncle Liang has left us, we must uphold his legacy, turn grief into strength, continue to run the popular library of Situ, carry forward the culture of teaching and ethics, in order to comfort his spirit in heaven. May the flowers of the dead, spring warm Siren, hope that the mountains and rivers are unharmed, the country is peaceful and the people are safe. Let Uncle Liang's road to heaven go well! 12 September 2022 (Former Library Director Szeto Leung died in hospital on the evening of September 9, 2022, and a funeral ceremony was held on September 12, 2022 in New Lian Xi Lane.) ) Uncle Liang passed away on 9-9-2022 This is Mr Szeto Liang at the Situ Library. He was so kind to write down my Seto Family Tree:

Hi, I'm trying to find any information I can about my ancestors. I know they're from Kaiping (Chikan specifically). My grandfather's name is Chao Han Situ and my grandmother's name is Xiu Xiang Guan.

Crystal,
It would make it easier for people to help you if you could provide the Chinese characters for the name of your grandfather's village - either from the family or clear photo of his gravestone.

Hi Crystal,
With just this name, someone would have to look through the 6 volumes of the Seto genealogy bookset - thousands of pages !
There are over 200 Szeto villages in the Chikan area - this would reduce the search considerably.

This was posted today by Wing Tak Szeto in Hong Kong. I asked if there was a way to order them from Szeto Library in Chikan, but haven't gotten an answer yet. Fay Chee

Hello Siyi family,
Just checking in to answer messages and to let you know that I am definitely doing Ching Ming for my dad and Ancestors this year. I would really love to visit his grave in Brooklyn NY (Evergreen Cemetery), but it is a long drive and things in NYC are scary lately. For several years I have set up an outdoor alter for my Ching Ming, and will probably do it again.
Best Wishes to all!

Hi Fay Chee,
I stumbled upon Guangzhou Jinan University's website for magazines a while back, and the (Situ) Jiaolun Monthly can be accessed on it: imagazine.jnu.edu.cn/2022/0415/c35455a690933/page.htm. It seems that Issue 121-122 (2022.12) is a corrupted file so it cannot be viewed (at least for me), but Issue 118 (2021.12) and Issue 119-120 (2022.6) are available. Particularly, in the first dozen pages of Issue 119-120, there are articles about the maintenance of the Szeto ancestral burial grounds and the relocation (due to infrastructural works) of the funerary urns of the 7 Szeto Heros who died in 1945 defending Chikan from Japanese occupation in the Southern Guard Tower. These were done in time for Qingming Festival last year. Glad you will be observing the tradition this year in your own way.
Otherwise, you could contact your local chapter of the (Szeto) Fung Lun Society to ask for a physical copy, since these magazines were primarily created to connect Overseas Chinese with the news in their hometowns. The magazines are sent to the local chapters which are then redistributed to their local members. New York's might've been relocated as the Google Maps location still shows its address as 74 Mott St, but the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association's updated list of community groups from January 2023 shows:
Fung Loon Benevolent Association, Inc.
10 Confucius Plaza, Apt 8G New York, NY 10002 917-361-0798
Cheers, Jason
